I’ve been planning the trip the last three weeks and only just now finished packing. So, I’m finally feeling the excitement. And can’t believe I’M FINALLY GOING TO LONDON! Where Have I Been?

It’s been a while since I’ve written. So where the heck have I been? Nowhere. Literally. Lil man and I have been holed up at home. Why? Between he and I, we’ve been sick for nearly three/four months. I wrote earlier lil man was sick off and on from November to December. He caught three different colds and had a sinusitis. They thought he had bronchitis or pneumonia. Thankfully not. I was sick in January. Got better one week and caught another cold. And this past week Lil man caught another cold again. It’s exhausting. I’ve been spraying Lysol on everything. Furniture, door knobs, baby gates, countertops, toilets, sinks, toys…just…

    Rough Month of Being Sick

It’s been a rough month for lil man. Or actually two months. He caught a cold early November. Two weeks after he was over that cold, he caught another cold after Thanksgiving. Not exactly the way we wanted to kick off the holiday season. His cold became a bad cold which then lead to sinustitis. We gave him antibiotics for the sinus infection. Then not long after that he started coughing. The pediatrician thought it might be a sign of pneumonia because the cough came later than the rest of his cold, but he didn’t have one major symptom – wheezing. So, after two doctor visits, all we could do…

    Rough week

It’s been a rough two weeks. But what mom can’t say this from time to time. Lil man has been sick for the last two weeks. Took him to the pediatrician and they said it was a really bad cold, but if he gets worse, they’re concerned it might be pneumonia because his cough came much later than the rest of the cold. So, we’re monitoring him. I don’t think it’s pneumonia though. At least, I’m hoping it’s not. Since he’s not feeling well, he’s been a lot of fussy about things. Very particular about who holds him, feeds him and changes him. Which is all expected. He’s even been…

    Hide me…

Scrunched in a corner thinking, “where is he?” Darkness all around yet I felt I could not hide. Afraid to move. Afraid he would find me. This was written for a Write On Edge writing: Compose a text–160 characters–that would either elicit or express fear

Four Reasons to Live with Family

Many Chinese families tend to stick together through the years. Whether it’s living close by or living together, they share homes, live in multi-family homes or in the same town. My friends fall into all three categories. Many of my friends live at home. Some live within 15miles of family and yet others share a home where they live on one floor and their parents and siblings live on another. Here are four great reasons to live together: 1. Save money by splitting bills 2. Rely on each other to watch the kids 3. Kids have more people to learn from 4. Build close ties with the entire family My…

Home Cooked Vietnamese Food – Bun Rieu and More

My mother-in-law makes the best Vietnamese food. I mean really. It’s just absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, she lives in Southern California and we live in New Jersey, so we have a lack of home cooked Vietnamese food here. She’s not Vietnamese, but her family has lived in Vietnam for generations and so they adapted their meals to Vietnamese dishes. My hubs Eric, of course, loves Vietnamese food and misses his mom’s cooking. I ventured a bit last week. I didn’t make American food, Italian or Chinese food. I decided to make Vietnamese dinner last Friday – for the first time ever. I was intimidated at first because I’ve just never done…

Culture: Chinese Full Moon Celebration for Baby

As part of our Chinese traditions, one of the things we do is celebrate the birth of our babies. I’m sure many cultures have this tradition and ritual and why shouldn’t they? The birth of a baby is definitely something to honor and celebrate. Our celebration usually occurs one month after the birth of the baby. This typically coincides with the end of the mother’s confinement period – we’re required to stay home for 30 days to rest and recuperate. I’ll do a post in the future to explain this further. The main purpose of the full moon celebration is to introduce the new baby to friends and relatives. Since…

Mid-Autumn Festival aka Chinese Moon Festival

Yesterday was the 15th day of the eighth month on our Chinese calendar. It’s the day we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival also known as the Chinese Moon Festival. It’s one of the important holidays we celebrate. The other two are the Spring Festival and Lunar New Year. We celebrate the holiday much like how we celebrate Thanksgiving. It’s a day of family reunion. We gather to together to celebrate over dinner, but festivities include admiring the moon. My Sister-in-law and her Sister made a wonderful dinner. Delicious! Our three families celebrated together this year. Unfortunately, my Sister-in-law’s younger sister couldn’t join us because she and her family live a little…
