Fork in the Road
Sitting in the dark corner of her room, Sally looked at the person staring at her. “Why are you here?” But she didn’t answer back. “You think I don’t belong here. I get it.” The eyes staring at her were melting her skin. She looked away, afraid to stare back, but couldn’t help herself. “What? What do you want?” Sally screamed. “You don’t belong here. No one wants you here.” Sally felt ashamed. She couldn’t disagree. She felt unwanted. Unworthy. “What are you waiting for? Do everyone a favor.” Shaking, Sally held the gun in her hands, staring at the gold bullets on the floor. She had found five. “No…

For Japan with Love
Before the clock strikes midnight, I wanted to make a quick note. I’m sure you’ve all seen the devastation in Japan and heard about all the lives affected and/or lost. The images truly saddened me and are just horrific when I read the news. So, tomorrow, I’m going to be participate in the Bloggers Day of Silence in recognition of all those that have lost their lives and all who have been affected. Bloggers Day of Silence is part of a campaign called “For Japan with Love” brought to the blogsphere by Utterly Engaged and Ever Ours, two wedding blogs. Basically, tomorrow – Friday, March 18th – all bloggers participating do not post at…

Swimming fun time
Lil Man is on his third week of swim class at the YMCA. The instructors there are wonderful with the children. They know how to interact with the kids no matter what age. George is our swim instructor for the little kids this season. He’s outgoing and great at explaining what to do with the babies and how to get them acquainted with the water. We dunked him full body and fortunately no crying. He flapped his arms a bit, but that was it. It’s a lot of fun watching him enjoy the water and progress each week. This past Sunday, he enjoyed swimming on his back and didn’t mind…

Baby Growth & Random Household Toys
It amazes me how much the Lil Man has grown over the last nine months. He started crawling and trying to stand end of January. “Walking” along the side of furniture while holding the edges last month. A couple weeks ago, he decided to climb up the bottom two steps of the living room staircase. He got stuck and didn’t know how to get back down. It was funny to watch him sit there trying to figure out how to get down. Now that he’s mobile and able to pull himself up to stand, he’s getting into all sorts of things. Definitely a trouble maker in the making. He particularly…

Weighing in on the Tiger Mother
I admit, I’m a bit late on this band wagon, but a lot of people have asked me about my thoughts on Amy Chua’s Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother. I haven’t read it, but I’m going to share my own thoughts based on what I’ve read in the news and what I’ve seen on tv. In case you didn’t know, I am Chinese-American. This is why many people have tried to discuss this book with me whether on facebook, twitter, email or in person. This post is not to defend or put down Chua’s book. I’m really just writing to share my thoughts on being a “Tiger Mother” myself.…

Sunny with a chance of…
It was a beautiful summer day. Eighty-eight degrees with a light cool breeze. No humidity. No stickiness. Almost too good to be true. The weather is simply gorgeous, Rebecca thought to herself. Looking out her living room bay window she decided it was a great day to take the kids to the beach. She finished her last sip of tea, went to wash the dishes and clean up the breakfast nook. An hour later, she and the kids where packed in the car heading to the beach. “Which beach are we going to Mom?” asked Landee. “Bellevue. It’ll be nice there and not too crowded.” Then in his sweet innocent…

Red Writing Hood – For Sale
Stanky socks for sale Omigosh. There THEY are again! Why do I have to come home every night to them? After a long day of work, when I walk through the door, these stanky old socks are not the first thing I want to see next to the front door! As I look around for my husband the next question I ask myself is, “Why does he have to leave his socks here?” No one in the living room. No one in the kitchen. No one in the dining room. “Anyone home?” I scream. A couple minutes later, I hear the toilet flush in the upstairs bathroom. “Hi Hunnie. How…

Baby swim lessons
We recently enrolled our lil man into baby swim lessons. Some of our friends were a bit surprised when we told them and basically asked, “there are baby swim lessons?” It never occurred to me that baby swim lessons were not “the norm”. So, I just tell them, yes. Yes, there are baby swim lessons and they’re mommy-and-me classes (or daddy-and-me). Then a couple people say, “wow that’s great!” and a couple say, “isn’t that dangerous?” So, I did a little bit of research on the topic and I was surprised to find more resources talking about why it might not be a good idea to put babies into swim…
