Chinese Cause and Effect
Last week, we shared with you our decision to shave Lil Man’s hair at the age of one. I forgot to mention that my mom actually wasn’t too keen of the idea. She actually didn’t want us to shave Lil Man’s hair because he thought it wouldn’t grow back properly. Many elders in my family are “chinese” as Chinese come… well, with certain things. But, let me get back to the topic of chinese cause and effect. What is it? If you know any very “chinese” people, you’ve probably realized by now they can be very superstitious. They’re also able to give you an effect for every cause. Whether the cause…

To Shave or not to Shave Baby’s Hair
Ok. It’s no secret that I’m Asian.. or may be it is. Lol. I don’t know I guess. Anyway, I’m Chinese… Chinese-American and it’s part of our culture to shave our baby’s hair off once they’re one month old. Many Asian cultures do this. Wikipedia has a page dedicated to the “first haircut”. One reason we do this is because the Chinese elders believe shaving the head helps the hair grow in thicker. I cannot deny or confirm such beliefs, but many people swear by it even though the experts say there’s no correlation. If you’ve never met an older Chinese person born outside the states, you’ll know or realize…

It’s my Party and I’ll….
Well.. no party. But it’s my birthday! So, today, I’m going to take the Friday off. But, I wanted to say hello anyway and say thank you to all my amazing friends for making me feel super special and remembering my birthday. I’ve been feeling down recently, so my spirits are uplifted. So, to everyone, in the words of Kai-Lan: you make my heart feel super happy I celebrated my birthday last night with my family…. small and intimate. Here’s the delicious Chinese-style Boston Cream Pie my awesome brother drove to Flushing to buy for me. Yum! Here’s the card my nephew V gave me. And I love this e-card…

Product Review: Bib’expresso Formula Maker
A few months ago, I joined the Clever Girls Collective, a network connecting bloggers with brands. Through this network, I was given an opportunity to review the Bib’expresso, provided to me free by Béaba. As with all my reviews, this review is my own opinion and I uphold my values of honesty and unbias. In fact, the Clever Girls Collective highly encourages us to write honestly, and the Collective, Béaba and I promote Blog with Integrity. So, on to the review – the Bib’expresso. If you don’t know what it is, it’s a formula maker, bottle warmer, sterilizer all-in-one. To give an idea about the product and it’s size, I’m took photos of it…

How do you Teach your Child About Mean People?
Yesterday, we took Lil Man to an indoor playground. He had a blast running around, playing with the spinning wall decor, going down the slide and climbing on the structures with E. Unfortunately, I witnessed two children calling other kids names the entire time. Their parents stood outside the area talking rather than paying any mind to their children. That, in itself, is already a no-no in my book. You simply cannot let your children run off playing and not pay attention to them. It’s just not a safe world and you simply do not know what might happen to them be it strangers approaching them or them getting hurt.…

Lil Man Turning One – Things We’ve Learned This Year
I can’t believe it. One year has gone by already. I mean, I’ve seen it many years now. My cousins are in college and high school. My nephew is in junior high. But I didn’t think this year would fly by so quickly. My Lil Man is turning one this Saturday. So many things have happened this past year for me and for him. What’s happened for Lil Man? Earned his first three bruises/cuts Seen snow Seen rain Learned he loves the wind blowing in his face Sprouted eight teeth (6 in the last three weeks) Realized he hates flat pacifiers Loves going down slides Discovered he loves adrenaline rushes…

Thankful Thursday: My child aka “Lil Man”
The week is almost over. It’s been a tough two weeks trying to get things done and getting no where fast. Instead of dwelling on what I haven’t accomplished or focusing on things to complain about, I thought I’d dedicate today to something of which I’m thankful. This Thursday, I’m thankful for my Lil Man. If not for him, I don’t know where my sanity would have gone this last two years. He’s turning one soon, but if it were not for the pregnancy followed by his birth, I would have fallen into an endless pit of depression. So, here’s to you Lil Man. I love you.

Why do I write?
I’m writing this because of the “Why I write” prompt from The Red Dress Club and because I just haven’t written anything for TRDC in a while. I’ve been…. unmotivated. In fact, I didn’t even realize what day (or date) it was this morning until I turned on the “internet” on my phone and read some tweets. I’ve been writing since childhood, but I never really put much thought into why I write. I write To open the drain To release the pain To feel past the fear To remember all I hold dear Not to tell But to remind others there’s more to life Than sadness and strife …

Birthday Party decorations
Lil Man’s 1st birthday is just around the corner. I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by. I haven’t even started planning for his birthday party yet. For some it sounds crazy that I’m thinking about it when it’s not for another four weeks, but there’s so many things to do: Make a guest list Confirm addresses Order/make invitations Mail the invitations out so people can RSVP two weeks prior Order goodie bags Figure out what to put into the goodie bags (and order them) What to put on the cake? Or do we want a cake? Decorations By the way, we’ll have a nice printable for you…
