Birthday Party decorations

Lil Man’s 1st birthday is just around the corner. I can’t believe how quickly this year has gone by. I haven’t even started planning for his birthday party yet. For some it sounds crazy that I’m thinking about it when it’s not for another four weeks, but there’s so many things to do:

  • Make a guest list
  • Confirm addresses
  • Order/make invitations
  • Mail the invitations out so people can RSVP two weeks prior
  • Order goodie bags
  • Figure out what to put into the goodie bags (and order them)
  • What to put on the cake?
  • Or do we want a cake?
  • Decorations

By the way, we’ll have a nice printable for you shortly for you to download that will help you plan for a birthday party for your little one. ^_-

Where to start first?

I spent the week looking at decorations and invitations because I need to decided on a theme. For Lil Man’s first birthday, we don’t really want anyone to buy him clothing. Let’s face it, little ones just grow way to quickly and we don’t want anyone’s gifts to go to waste and not get worn. As for toys, we don’t have much room for more toys and Lil Man has quite a few already. So, this year, we decided to do a book party.

What’s a book party?

Lil Man really loves books. He can’t read yet, but loves to be read to and loves flipping the pages for us while we read to him. For a book party, basically, guests bring a book to add to Lil Man’s library collection. And we’re adding a philanthropic twist to it because I really like helping the community. We’re going to ask guests to bring a book and donate a book. One for Lil Man’s library and one to donate to charity.

I haven’t had much luck finding decorations or invitations with the exact concept I have in my head. I basically wanted a invitation that looked like a book on the outside – drawing/illustration – with the party details on the side PLUS a library check out card for an RSVP card.

Pick a theme

As an awesome alternative, there’s a Dr. Seuss party theme!!! Here are some goodies I’ve found so far:

Dr. Seuss inspired theme from Anders Ruff etsy store. It comes with the happy birthday banner, blank party labels, favor hangtag, patterned papers, party logo, thank you note, return address labels, circle party sign and text personalization. You can also check out her blog.

Found this invitation & treat box from SeussLand

I’m getting really excited. I think I may just move forward with this theme. It’s a book theme and it’s fun! What do you think? Share your thoughts or ideas by leaving me a comment. ^_^
