5 Reasons Why Having Family Nearby is a Blessing
My mom lives about seven miles from where we live and my brother and his family are about 10 miles away. I’m not lying when I say it’s a blessing.
Some might think I’m crazy when I say that, but really… I’m being serious. Having family nearby when you have children is absolutely great. I love having my family nearby. If I had my way, I would love everyone in my family to be nearby, but it’s just not possible when there are so many of us (including my hubs side of the family).
Here are my reasons why the close proximity is such a blessing:
- Have baby sitters if I need them
- Regular family dinners
- Holiday dinners are always fun & never dull
- Support whenever necessary whether it’s mentally, physically or emotionally
- Lil man will have the chance to build the same strong family ties as I did with my family
Above all, number five is my biggest reason to have family around.
I think it’s absolutely vital for my lil man to grow up around his family (not just me and hubs). I want him to know he’s loved always by many. That he always has support from more than just hubs and me. I know that it comes down to how we raise him to ensure he is a family man when he gets older, but I feel having the family members around helps build this connection and make it even stronger.
What I love best… that lil man will have a chance to know and develop a strong relationship with his grandmother as I did with mine.

My siblings are all in different cities now and I think about this all the time. I hope when we have kids we will be close by again, and of course, that our parents will follow 🙂

Hi Kirsten. Extended family dynamics tend to bit once children arrive. I’m sure your parents will elect to be close by to their grandchildren when the time comes. My hubs, Eric, often thinks about his family as well. Five of his siblings are still in California with his parents while one sibling is in Texas. We do miss them, but we do our best to visit at least once a year and they come to visit us also. Wish you all the best as your family grows. Thanks for dropping by!

That’s great your hubby has 5 siblings in California (big family!). Thanks for the good wishes! If I have kids first maybe I get dibs on the grandparents 🙂
