Where Have I Been?
It’s been a while since I’ve written. So where the heck have I been? Nowhere. Literally. Lil man and I have been holed up at home. Why? Between he and I, we’ve been sick for nearly three/four months. I wrote earlier lil man was sick off and on from November to December. He caught three different colds and had a sinusitis. They thought he had bronchitis or pneumonia. Thankfully not. I was sick in January. Got better one week and caught another cold. And this past week Lil man caught another cold again. It’s exhausting. I’ve been spraying Lysol on everything. Furniture, door knobs, baby gates, countertops, toilets, sinks, toys…just…

Rough Month of Being Sick
It’s been a rough month for lil man. Or actually two months. He caught a cold early November. Two weeks after he was over that cold, he caught another cold after Thanksgiving. Not exactly the way we wanted to kick off the holiday season. His cold became a bad cold which then lead to sinustitis. We gave him antibiotics for the sinus infection. Then not long after that he started coughing. The pediatrician thought it might be a sign of pneumonia because the cough came later than the rest of his cold, but he didn’t have one major symptom – wheezing. So, after two doctor visits, all we could do…

Rough week
It’s been a rough two weeks. But what mom can’t say this from time to time. Lil man has been sick for the last two weeks. Took him to the pediatrician and they said it was a really bad cold, but if he gets worse, they’re concerned it might be pneumonia because his cough came much later than the rest of the cold. So, we’re monitoring him. I don’t think it’s pneumonia though. At least, I’m hoping it’s not. Since he’s not feeling well, he’s been a lot of fussy about things. Very particular about who holds him, feeds him and changes him. Which is all expected. He’s even been…

Separation Anxiety and How a Day Bed & Carseat Solved the Problem
Lil man has always been pretty independent. It’s allowed me to go out with him alone – him in the backseat with the rear-facing carseat while I drive. I was able to put him into his crib for naps without needing to cuddle him to sleep since he’d fall asleep on his own. Then a few weeks ago he completely lost it. One day he was fine. The next day he became very attached. Every time we put him into the car seat or even near the car, he flipped out… got so upset and worked up he’d throw up. When we put him into the crib, he’d cry and…

How an Arizona Ice Tea bottle, Storage Container, Two Clamps, Two Hoses & a Utility Sink Saved Our Home from Hurricane Irene
This past weekend was a crazy weekend. Since we live in Bergen County, New Jersey, we were in the direct path of Hurricane Irene. The storm hit us Sunday early in the day. We stayed up late to make sure nothing happened to the house. We were getting ready to sleep at 1am when my brother and hubs heard a loud bang. And our power went out. We never bought a generator for the house… we simply forgot after the last winter storm. What a big mistake. With the power out, our sump pump stopped working. With the fear of flood in their minds, my brother and hubs decided to…

Boy Am I Tired & 5 Reasons I Miss Naps
I don’t have much to say today… except … boy am I tired. lol. My 14 month old baby boy is completely tiring me out. He has an abundance of energy. Sometimes I don’t know what to do with him. And to top it off, he hasn’t wanted to take naps recently. He was doing 2-3 hour naps once or twice a day for the last few months. This past week he’s just done 10 – 30 minutes a day. I can only do so much running, jumping, lifting, rolling and everything else with him in one day. It just makes me so worn out by mid-day. What is a…

China’s One-Child Policy and Adoption
There are a lot of things I’m proud of being Chinese. And then there are some things I’m not so proud of. The taboo about adopting or taking in a child not of your own blood is one of my not-proud-things and the other is China’s one-child law. You might be thinking: What? What’s the one child law? I’ve had many people ask me about this topic. Basically, China introduced a one-child per family law over 30 years ago. Depending on where you live, you cannot have more than one child. There’s also a ethnic rule as well. Both ways, I call it discrimination. They call it “family planning”. My…

It’s my Party and I’ll….
Well.. no party. But it’s my birthday! So, today, I’m going to take the Friday off. But, I wanted to say hello anyway and say thank you to all my amazing friends for making me feel super special and remembering my birthday. I’ve been feeling down recently, so my spirits are uplifted. So, to everyone, in the words of Kai-Lan: you make my heart feel super happy I celebrated my birthday last night with my family…. small and intimate. Here’s the delicious Chinese-style Boston Cream Pie my awesome brother drove to Flushing to buy for me. Yum! Here’s the card my nephew V gave me. And I love this e-card…

How do you Teach your Child About Mean People?
Yesterday, we took Lil Man to an indoor playground. He had a blast running around, playing with the spinning wall decor, going down the slide and climbing on the structures with E. Unfortunately, I witnessed two children calling other kids names the entire time. Their parents stood outside the area talking rather than paying any mind to their children. That, in itself, is already a no-no in my book. You simply cannot let your children run off playing and not pay attention to them. It’s just not a safe world and you simply do not know what might happen to them be it strangers approaching them or them getting hurt.…

Another Seizure Scare
Yesterday, I had a minor scare. For those of you that have read about our hospital trip in December, you know we had a seizure scare. For those who didn’t, you can read about that story here. It’s been five months since our hospital trip and seizure scare. And also five months since we found out my father had a history of seizures as a child. We’ve been monitoring Lil Man, but not like nutty parents. Just simply lean on the cautious side when his mood changes or if he gets sick – basically, take his temperature when we think he’s acting abnormal or similar to those days prior to…
