    Book Review: Home-Ec 101

I recently received a complimentary copy Home-Ec 101: Skills for Everyday Living: Cook It, Clean It, Fix It, Wash It by Heather Solos. When I first heard the title of the book, I wasn’t sure if this book was rubbish or real. The cover was a little hokie for me, but don’t judge a book by its cover right? I’ve read one chapter so far and I enjoyed it. Yep, I did. Solos’ writing feels friendly and certainly not monotonous. To me, I felt as though she was writing the way she speaks and that makes for easy reading. But what makes this book good? Her steps are simple and…

    Swimming fun time

Lil Man is on his third week of swim class at the YMCA. The instructors there are wonderful with the children. They know how to interact with the kids no matter what age. George is our swim instructor for the little kids this season. He’s outgoing and great at explaining what to do with the babies and how to get them acquainted with the water. We dunked him full body and fortunately no crying. He flapped his arms a bit, but that was it. It’s a lot of fun watching him enjoy the water and progress each week. This past Sunday, he enjoyed swimming on his back and didn’t mind…

    Baby swim lessons

We recently enrolled our lil man into baby swim lessons. Some of our friends were a bit surprised when we told them and basically asked, “there are baby swim lessons?” It never occurred to me that baby swim lessons were not “the norm”. So, I just tell them, yes. Yes, there are baby swim lessons and they’re mommy-and-me classes (or daddy-and-me). Then a couple people say, “wow that’s great!” and a couple say, “isn’t that dangerous?” So, I did a  little bit of research on the topic and I was surprised to find more resources talking about why it might not be a good idea to put babies into swim…

    Happy New Year!!!!!!

Happy New Year? It’s already February! Yes. You’re right. It is. But, today is Chinese New Year. Today, begins the Year 4709 on our calendar and it is the Year of the Hare/Rabbit in our Chinese Zodiac. What do you mean it’s the Year 4709? Yep… our calendar began many many moons ago. I can’t even begin to explain it all to you. I’m not even really entirely sure I understand it all, but WebExhibits gives a pretty good explanation about the Chinese Calendar. You can take a look at their information there. After you read it, you can come here and explain it all in layman’s terms – I’d…

Product Review: Eating out with baby

A group of my friends and I decided to go out for dinner tonight for our Holiday dinner because we didn’t get a chance to do it during the holiday season. We ended up at Magiano’s. It was pretty busy, but fortunately we made a reservation and got a table for 14! Yes, that’s right – 14. That’s eight adults and six kiddos. Two families with two kiddos and two families with one kiddo. All of our children are under the age of five. So, needless to say lots of high chairs, car seat slings, toys to occupy the kids during dinner and everything else we need to tote around…

Baby accessories and more for the “Chic Mama”

I recently started my twitter account for Yippy Momma and connected with Chic Mama. If you haven’t seen her Chic Mama site yet, you totally should. She has such cute accessories for moms. The carryalls and the diaper clutch are so CUTE! And you’ll notice she has beautiful diaper cakes too. Here are some of her diaper cakes I took from her website (http://www.chicmamadiapercakes.com/), but go to her site to see her large selection.

    Product Review: Playtex Baby Bottles

We’ve tried two different baby bottles so far: Dr. Brown and People’s Choice. Since we weren’t happy with these two bottles, we’re still on a quest to find the perfect baby bottle. This week we decided to try Playtex VentAire bottles. You can purchase a 9oz 3-pack for about $12.89. Like the Dr. Brown bottles, there are several pieces: Top cap Ring Nipple Bottle Bottom cap Plastic vent disc The bottle vents well. Not sure if this is because of the design – they are angled or only due to the plastic vent piece. Because the bottom cap comes off the bottle, it’s pretty easy to wash. The bottle won’t…

Product Review: Dr. Brown baby bottles

One of the things we registered for on our baby registry was Dr. Brown baby bottles. We chose Dr. Brown baby bottles because a few of my friends said they really liked them and because all the reviews we read online said great things. In particular that their baby bottles helps reduce feeding problems like colic and gas. Now that we’ve been using them for about a month, I wanted to share my thoughts on them. The ones we have are the 8oz polypropylene bottles – standard not wide and not glass. The first thing you need to know about Dr. Brown baby bottles is that there are a lot…
