Sponsored: Bronx Zoo Fun Event Reminder Memorial Day Weekend
In case you didn’t know, the Bronx Zoo has an annual summer event called the “Animal Tales Extravaganza”. Each weekend they host character meet & greets and a variety of events for the kids. As an Ambassador for the Bronx Zoo, I love visiting the Zoo with our family pass. It’s not only fun, but also relaxing just walking around the Zoo with the family. The kiddos enjoy seeing the animals and hubs and I love just strolling around outdoors in the nice shade of the Zoo. This weekend (May 26th and May 27th), they have Sid the Science Kid and Buddy the T-Rex from Dinosaur Train. Sid the Science Kid from…

How Being Chinese Affected my TV watching & Chiming in on TV for my Kids
Some Chinese parents don’t allow their children to watch TV at all because that means they’re not studying, reading or playing music. I didn’t really fall into this category. I was allowed to watch TV, but I really didn’t have much interest in American TV. Basically, growing up, I didn’t watch much American TV. I did however, watch plenty of Chinese soap operas with my family as did all my cousins and my husbands nieces and nephews. Lots of cooking and singing shows and Chinese opera. In fact, I loved it. And one of my earliest memories of watching TV with my grandmother is dancing and roaming around in front…

Bronx Zoo & the Marvel Avengers
So who’s excited about the new Marvel Avengers movie coming up? I am!!! I love Marvel characters. I vividly remember rummaging through my brother’s comic books growing up. And I always love watching them on the big screen. I’m hoping to introduce my kiddos to Marvel comics when they grow up also. A bit of a family tradition. If you or your kiddos are fans, you’ll also be happy to know the Marvel Avengers will be at The Bronx Zoo this weekend! The Bronx Zoo will be the only place in the US that will have the 4 costumed characters appearing from the new film Avengers Assemble prior to the…

Sponsored: Animal Tales Extravaganza at the Bronx Zoo & 20% off Admission
I’m so excited for this Spring and Summer! I recently became a WCS Bronx Zoo/NY Aquarium Blog Ambassador. Which means in exchange for my event coverage and reviews, I received a Family Membership, but no other compensation, monetary or otherwise. But, don’t worry, you know I’m always honest in my opinion, so I’ll be unbiased about my event reviews also. 😉 You’ll see reviews after we attend an event and also announcements of events and programs. So keep an eye out! And it’s perfect timing because now that lil man turns two this Summer, I’ll be able to take him to the Bronx Zoo and the Aquarium with our family…

Our Lil Lady on the Way
So, I’m officially 1/2 way through with my current pregnancy. It feels as though it’s gone much quicker than when I had lil man. Partly because this pregnancy has been much easier than when I had lil man. Yes, we’ve had to deal with the amnio and the fear of down syndrome, but comfortability wise, this pregnancy has been much better. I’m able to eat and hold my food down. I didn’t break my tailbone this time (at least not yet). Morning sickness was bad weeks 8-12, but with lil man it was my entire pregnancy. I haven’t been cooped up at home. Weather has been nice. Went on a nice…

5 Reasons Why Having Family Nearby is a Blessing
My mom lives about seven miles from where we live and my brother and his family are about 10 miles away. I’m not lying when I say it’s a blessing. Some might think I’m crazy when I say that, but really… I’m being serious. Having family nearby when you have children is absolutely great. I love having my family nearby. If I had my way, I would love everyone in my family to be nearby, but it’s just not possible when there are so many of us (including my hubs side of the family). Here are my reasons why the close proximity is such a blessing: Have baby sitters if…

Four Reasons to Live with Family
Many Chinese families tend to stick together through the years. Whether it’s living close by or living together, they share homes, live in multi-family homes or in the same town. My friends fall into all three categories. Many of my friends live at home. Some live within 15miles of family and yet others share a home where they live on one floor and their parents and siblings live on another. Here are four great reasons to live together: 1. Save money by splitting bills 2. Rely on each other to watch the kids 3. Kids have more people to learn from 4. Build close ties with the entire family My…

Culture: Chinese Full Moon Celebration for Baby
As part of our Chinese traditions, one of the things we do is celebrate the birth of our babies. I’m sure many cultures have this tradition and ritual and why shouldn’t they? The birth of a baby is definitely something to honor and celebrate. Our celebration usually occurs one month after the birth of the baby. This typically coincides with the end of the mother’s confinement period – we’re required to stay home for 30 days to rest and recuperate. I’ll do a post in the future to explain this further. The main purpose of the full moon celebration is to introduce the new baby to friends and relatives. Since…

Mid-Autumn Festival aka Chinese Moon Festival
Yesterday was the 15th day of the eighth month on our Chinese calendar. It’s the day we celebrate the Mid-Autumn Festival also known as the Chinese Moon Festival. It’s one of the important holidays we celebrate. The other two are the Spring Festival and Lunar New Year. We celebrate the holiday much like how we celebrate Thanksgiving. It’s a day of family reunion. We gather to together to celebrate over dinner, but festivities include admiring the moon. My Sister-in-law and her Sister made a wonderful dinner. Delicious! Our three families celebrated together this year. Unfortunately, my Sister-in-law’s younger sister couldn’t join us because she and her family live a little…
