Pregnancy restrictions

Now that I’m pregnant there are some many things to think about with my health and eating habits. But, to make it worse… I have “chinese” pregnancy restrictions. Yes, I’m Chinese and so being so close to my grandmother and a little more tradition than most Chinese-American grandchildren, I am going to abide by her restrictions a top of my doctor’s restrictions.

What do these restrictions include? Some of them probably will create “?” in your head, but nonetheless, many Chinese have abided by these rules and haven’t gone wrong. Here goes….

Cannot eat:

  1. watermelons
  2. bananas
  3. green beans
  4. too much sugar
  5. too much salt
  6. spicy food
  7. fried stuff
  8. soda (not that I was drinking soda anyway)
  9. ice cream
  10. seafood (i love seafood- it was really the only thing I was eatting besides vegetables)
  11. any beef less than well done (anyone that knows me knows I eat my beef bloody!)
  12. take any western meds
  13. take chinese meds
  14. drink tea

Cannot do:

  1. Snowboarding (damn it but i have so many boarding buddies this year!!!!)
  2. Lift my arms above my head
  3. Run (not that I did that anyway)
  4. Jump
  5. Anything sporty (good thing I got the skydiving over with)
  6. Screaming
  7. Crying
  8. Watching scary or sad movies
  9. Frowning
  10. Lift my laptop off the floor (ok i’m being sarcastic here, but it’s still true)
  11. Sitting too long
  12. Laying down too long (but I’m always so tired)
  13. Listen to crude music

Things I’ve decided I can’t do:

  1. Twist my body (I get nausea)
  2. Eat anything with lactose in it (I’ve become intolerant all of a sudden)
  3. Ride in the car (I get nausea)
  4. Quick or sudden movement (I get nausea)
  5. Lean forward or backward (I get nausea)
  6. Listen to loud music or tv (hurts my ears)
  7. Wear anything that’s too tight around my neck (I get nausea)

But, it’s totally worth it.
