Hello 2013! New Year Resolution
It’s amazing how quickly 2012 went by and now the new year is here. Like everyone else, I’m thinking about what needs to be done this year. I had an amazing 2012 which included the birth of my daughter, lots of happy memories with my family and friends and spending time with my son who developed immensely last year. Do I have a resolution this year? Yes. Only one…to have more patience. More patience for everything and everyone. By developing patience, it will help me in all areas of life from personal to business. Having more patience won’t prevent me from accomplishing my goals. I feel it will help me.…

My Shock at the Newtown, CT, Sandy Hook Elementary School News
Late this afternoon, I was done with work so I decided to do a quick check on my Facebook account as my kids were due to wake up from their naps soon. As my newsfeed was updating, I noticed a couple statuses about prayers for Connecticut. I decided to Google CT latest news. I was no prepared to read what I read. At that moment, my kids both woke up from their naps while tears were running down my face. I held them both tightly and gave them kisses. My oldest, at 2-1/2 years old looked at me with confusion and asked why I was crying. I did not know…

What to Expect When You’re Pregnant: The Things They Don’t Tell You
You’re expecting. Congratulations! Looking forward to your baby glow, picking things out for the nursery, buying baby clothes, putting together your registry, and the lovely bigger boobs everyone talks about. Those are all great things about pregnancy everyone tells you about. But, what about all the other stuff – the yucky stuff? Let me shed some light on the dark side of pregnancy for you. Here’s a list of the things they didn’t tell you to expect during pregnancy. You will feel fat. You’ll feel fat while your husband tells you you’re beautiful (because you are really beautiful as all pregnant women are). Just be prepared to get that “I’m…

Grandma Back in the Hospital
Last week, I my grandmother fell and fractured her wrist. Today, my brother was able to take the day off to take our grandma to a follow up doctor visit. What should have been an 1-hour doctor visit lead to him sending our grandmother back to the ER today. =( He told my brother if she was pretty active before the fall and hasn’t been since then plus has dizziness then she needs to do new CAT scans to make sure there isn’t any fluid or internal bleeding. After her fall last week my grandmother has had some dizziness. My mom took a 1/2 day off work to meet my brother…

Scary Moments
After a frightful fall in the kitchen and a terrible smack on the head, I spent the entire day in ER with my Grandmother. It was a scary moment when I was feeding lil man and heard an extremely loud crack. I knew then my grandmother had fallen. One moment she was watching TV in the living room, the next she went to the kitchen and within 15 minutes fell. My heart jumped out of my chest. I ran into the kitchen and found her sprawled on the floor flat on her back, a cutting board next to the sink with chicken on it and a knife not too far…

My Newborn has a Milk Protein Allergy
Earlier this week, I wrote about my newborn having bloody mucus in her stool and the possibility that it was a milk protein allergy. You can read about that here. Yesterday, she still had the bloody mucus in the stool. It was a lot less than earlier in the week after changing her formula to similac alimentum, but nonetheless, we had to head to the pediatrician. I brought along a stool sample for them to test. The pediatrician put some of the “clean” stool onto a card to test if blood was it in & it was positive. We also discussed the possibility of her reacting to the large amounts…

My Newborn has a Bloody Mucus Stool
The title sounds great doesn’t it? Lil lady had a bloody mucus stool all weekend. She doesn’t have any other symptoms. She’s not fussy and not gassy. She wakes for feedings and feeds without issue. We called the pediatrician on Sunday and they think she’s allergic to milk protein. To err on the safe side, the pediatrician changed our formula to Similac Alimentum. The same day that started, I developed this terrible cough. My family & elders think it’s because I ate too much ginger due to my Chinese post pregnancy diet which then passed to lil lady in breast milk. Plus I also drank milk all week because when…

What is Group B Strepcoccus (GBS)?
I was supposed to finish this post before I delivered, but lil lady came a bit early and very quickly, but I wanted to post it anyway b/c it’s an important topic that I think everyone should be aware of. Went to the OBGYN for my weekly appointment a few weeks ago. Nothing particularly special, but received results from my culture test from two weeks ago. And unfortunately I’m tested positive for Group B Strepcoccus aka GBS. So what is it? Basically, it’s bacteria that you can carry in your system that usually resides in your intestines or lower genital tract. Approximately 25% of all healthy women carry group B strep bacteria. The bacteria can…

Roseola
A few weeks ago, lil man developed a high fever. It lasted about three days. I would have been quite concerned had it not been for a brief conversation with a friend I had during our annual BBQ only five days prior. My friend Jo told me her daughter developed a fever for several days which was then followed by a rash. After taking her daughter to our shared pediatrician they came to the conclusion she might have roseola. Jo’s daughter doesn’t attend daycare. In fact, other than her own sibling, the only people she really sees daily are her parents and grandparents. My son doesn’t attend daycare either. He’s…

Pregnancy update Week 36
Haven’t written much about the pregnancy since all the crazy testing so I thought I’d do an update here. This is really more for the sake of my memory and the ability to share with my kiddos in the future though. I’m finally in my last month of term. With four more weeks to go, things are getting challenging. My hips are starting to bother me when I walk. I can’t go more than 15 minutes without needing to go to the bathroom. I’m not sleeping well. In fact, I’m not really sleeping. If I’m lucky I get about two hours a night and two hours in the afternoon. Since…
